POSITION SUMMARY:

The Homemaker/Companion works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and performs tasks that contribute to clients’ comfort and safety in the home. The Homemaker/Companion provides emotional support, socialization, quiet time and can assist with meal preparation and light housekeeping.

Reports to: Nursing Supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
2. Demonstrate ability to read, write, follow a written Plan of Care and document tasks performed.
3. Be self-directed and work with minimal supervision.
4. Demonstrate Dependability, tact, patience and the ability to follow instructions.
5. Possess good interpersonal communication skills.
6. Have experience in cooking, cleaning, laundry and shopping.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

1. Function within the limitations of the individual assignment and maintain strict confidentiality.
2. Attend to client’s request promptly.
3. Provide companionship, socialization and housekeeping services.
4. Assist with meal planning, purchase of food and food preparation.
5. Assist client to live in a clean, safe environment:
   a.Cleaning bathrooms and kitchen, including refrigerator and stove
   b.Personal errands
   c.Laundry
   d.Vacuuming and dusting
   e.Scrubbing floors
   f.Changing bed linens
6. Know and follow infection control policies, including proper hand washing techniques.
7. Maintain appropriate communication with the Nursing Supervisor (written and verbal) and with all members of the interdisciplinary team.
8. Document cares given and pertinent observations accurately as directed by the care plan/Nursing Supervisor.
9. Treat clients and families with respect and maintain confidentiality.
10. Accept and fulfill assignments with the Agency and exercise judgment in accepting assignments.
11. Attend required in-service programs per Agency policy.
